MUSIC

PERFORMANCE PRACTICE
(Instrumental) MV 111........................................3 Credits/Certificate
Qualified students perform in concerts. Artist-coaches in strings, guitar, brass, piano, organ, composition, woodwinds, early music and orchestra provide instructional assistance. Music prepared for public performances and master classes in all 111 courses.

PERFORMANCE PRACTICE
(Vocal) MV 111................................................. 3 Credits/Certificate
Master classes include coaching, acting and audition techniques, excerpts and arias from opera and musicals, emphasizing performance interpretation, repertory, includes piano, orch. accompanied. Perform in concerts and workshops in opera.

 

COMPOSITION CONDUCTING
MC111..............................................3 Credits/Certificate
Rehearse, supervise and conduct chamber (orchestra chorus) music.Original music scores prepared in Siena for concerts. Hours by arrangement with the Director. For conductors and composers.

 

CULTURE

 

 

All participants chosen for the program need not be proficient in music only. Persons with varying backgrounds in music and other fields may participate in the program by choosing SSMA/UNS courses for credit or non-credit (undergraduate and graduate). Professional certificate awarded for full participation in S.S.M.A. (tax deductible - ample free time)

CULTURE OF SIENA & ITS SURROUNDINGS
HU/651 (GRAD.) Special.

Designed for the student who wants a general overview of art- music-society since the medieval era, discussions, classes held on location where possible, and opportunities to attend limited concerts, limited rehearsals and a Puccini opera at his villa. (Survey of Tuscan Art). Free admission to local museums. The Art-Music course acquaints participants with works of art and their relationship to music and society. Cultural trips to various locations are an integral part of the courses.


 


ITALIAN LANGUAGE
AT/LA 599 ............................... 3 Credits/Certificate

The diploma Italian Language course is designed to train participants in appropriate levels of the Italian language. The course is taught by a professor and proffsa, from approved S.S.M.A./University of Siena.-S. Pronunciations of terms and music text. Varying backgrounds accepted. Visit local places of interest. Credit and non/credit.

 

 

INDEPENDENT STUDIES: Approved for research. Subjects - music education, private instructions, thesis in music, language. Universita di Siena per Cultura. (3 week attendance possible)

 

 

 

 

 

The #111 courses are performance based and deal with coaching students in Chamber Ensemble, Solos and Composition. They are ideally suited for participants interested in both Vocal and Instrumental development and performance. Above MV courses require an interview and/or audition. These may be arranged and completed in person, by mail, or by tape in the U.S. No audition required for other courses. (Instruction in English).
